Cynthia Ogbonna

Cynthia is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant and Chartered Company Secretary with over 28 years’ experience.  She also has an MBA from Cardiff Business School and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Honorary Fellow of Cardiff University. She has extensive experience in managing business organizations, especially in the areas of Finance, IT, Human Resources and Corporate Governance (including pensions and corporate legal compliance).

Cynthia joined Cardiff Bus in 2004 as Finance Director and she became the first female in the 110 years history of Cardiff Bus to be appointed Managing Director in 2012, a position she held until she took a career break in December 2019.

Cynthia has previously held directorship and senior management positions in automotive and general manufacturing organizations.

She is passionate about promoting equality of opportunities, life-long learning, work-life balance and employee well-being. She is an active mentor who gives her time to helping members of disadvantaged groups (especially women and young people) to navigate their careers.

Cynthia is currently a non-executive director of BAWSO. She was a Governor of a local school for 12 years (until 2014) and was a member of UpRising Cymru Advisory Board and Non-executive Director of Traveline Cymru.

Cynthia is married to Emmanuel (who is a professor at Cardiff University) and they have two daughters and two granddaughters.
