This is the second in a 3-part Communications Leadership series brought you by IoD London throughout the second half of 2020.

The critical component of any organisation is effective communication. As you lead, having the ability to communicate well will impact how well your organisation achieves its priorities and goals. In a time of crisis and change, this is even more important. You and your leadership team will be facing challenges as you attempt to execute change, re-organise how you operate and all this, while trying to take your people with you. There will be some tough decisions to make that will lead to challenging conversations. The only way to get through this is to have the ability to communicate effectively both internally within your organisation and externally with customers, stakeholders and the media. 

In a digital world the boundaries have become increasingly blurred. How you are perceived externally effects the morale and performance of your people as much as the standard of your internal communications. So we will explore how PR should be core to your communications strategy and ways to cut through the noise and be heard rather than part of the herd.    

At this webinar we will present three themes that cover your leadership, your challenge and your approach. We will provide practical tips on being an effective leader in the midst of change and crisis through effective internal and external communications. Because good communications are good for business.

Speakers

Jenni Field

Jenni Field has over 16 years’ experience in communications, specialising in helping organisations go from chaos to calm; working with organisations to help them understand how to get teams to work together better and operations to work more efficiently. 

Everything Jenni does starts with insight and having set up communication functions in pharmaceutical, hospitality and advertising industries, she is an expert in ensuring alignment between the communication and business strategy. 

Jenni is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), she is a Chartered practitioner, and qualified in internal communications.

Hamish Thompson

Hamish Thompson is a PR, media relations and brand strategist with 30 years experience of advising more than 100 brands worldwide. He has worked with Boards and senior management teams, in-house for FTSE-100 businesses and was the founder and managing director of a multi-award-winning consultancy serving an international client base. He sold his consultancy, Houston PR, to private equity investors in 2019. As well as working with many household brands he has also advised public figures. He specialises in the delivery of purposeful, high impact communications programmes that reset the relationship between brands and their audiences and markets. His objective is to enable his clients to be heard, rather than part of the herd.

Hamish has also lectured and written extensively on communications strategy and is a regular commentator on brand strategy on television, radio and in national and international papers and journals.

Simon Barker

Simon has 25 years’ experience of advising business-to-business organisations on using public relations to support their commercial objectives. He works with high-growth startups through to global leaders and the professional services firms that advise them. His experience encompasses a broad range of industries, from automotive, energy and financial services, to law, life sciences, strategy consulting and technology. 

The core of Simon’s work is developing editorially led PR campaigns that leverage the media as an asset to communicate clients’ growth stories and sector expertise to their key target audiences. His work has been award-winning and nominated. 

He set-up his own consultancy in 2015. Previously, Simon spent 20 years at PR agencies in the City and the West End.

Simon graduated from the University of Leeds in 1992 (2.1 BA Honours in History) and has an Executive MBA from Cass Business School (2008)

Vanessa Dal Busco

Vanessa is Marketing / PR Ambassador for IoD Central London and a Marketing / Tech Evangelist. 

For the past 20 years Vanessa has worked in the technology sector across travel, finance and not-for-profit industries in marketing and business development roles that often involved product launches and business turnarounds, acquisitions, or sale, specialising in B2B lead generation and audience engagement. 

In 2019 Vanessa founded Ad Lumin which creates and implements content marketing plans so clients can attract the right new customers by raising their profile and increasing visibility through lead generation and audience engagement. 
Vanessa is also Head of Governance on the Institute of Fundraising South-East and London Committee, is studying law, is a Board Member of IoD London and enjoys tennis and cycling.
 

Jeremy Duncan

Jeremy is a Partner and Brand Strategy Director at Reggie London, an award-winning independent brand and communications consultancy. He has worked in communications for over 30 years, firstly on the advertising and marketing fronts within the publishing sector for Reed and Condé Nast. He then built and ran a leading design consultancy, advised agencies and businesses as an independent consultant and was involved in a digital PR start-up before joining Reggie London in 2014. Jeremy has extensive knowledge and experience of working in most industry sectors, having acted as a strategic consultant and led major branding projects for many household names in the UK and internationally.

Jeremy has been Marketing Officer for IoD City of London since 2017 and is a Board Member of IoD London.
