IoD Online: Artificial Intelligence – The Power Struggle Between The Human and the Machine – In Conversation with David De Cremer

30 Jul 2020
Online webinar, Online
It is a given that the invasion of artificial intelligence into business will only intensify in pursuit of significant efficiency gains. Underlying this trend seems to be the idea that if body and mind can be replaced, in time, human itself should be replaced. It sounds like a science fiction, but all the signs seem to be there. Will artificially intelligent machines become part of a company’s board of directors? Will artificial intelligence and leadership compete to fight their corner? What will be the future leadership qualities in the era of algorithms to make a leader survive and thrive?

The Institute of Directors invites you to join this conversation with David De Cremer. David has just released his latest book – Leadership by Algorithm. David’s previous book (with Tian Tao) Huawei: Leadership, culture and Connectivity is a million copy bestseller. David is currently the provost chair, professor in management and director and founder of the Centre on AI Technology for Humankind at the National University of Singapore Business School. He is also the former KPMG chaired professor of management studies and current honorary fellow at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge and a researcher at the Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School, Yale University.

This will be a thought provoking and engaging conversation anchored by Raj Singh, Chairman Institute of Directors Berkshire and will have a 30 minute session in the end where the audience will be invited to ask their own questions to David. The attendees will be able to preview a sample section of David’s latest book and be eligible to order it at a special IoD discount, delivered to their doorstep.

Why Should I Attend:

As leaders, we continue to be bogged down by a number of questions in our daily professional life
How fast will be the rise of algorithms in organisations in our sector?
Will it be us vs. them?
Will intelligent machines replace humans?
Do limits exist for self-learning machines?
Can we trust these machines powered by algorithms?
Will all of management be replaced by machines?
Is leadership replaceable?
What leadership style will we need in the AI era to be successful?

Artificial Intelligence presents one of the top five challenges and opportunities for the leaders in this decade. Narrative around artificial intelligence could be mysterious, complex, unbalanced or even highly technical. We need a balanced view around this to prepare ourselves for co-existing successfully with this technological disruption.

This conversation perhaps makes a positive start for your journey towards demystifying the world of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
