IoD North West Webinar - Climate change and your role as a leader

23 Oct 2019
IoD North West , Manchester

Climate change has been described as one of the greatest leadership challenges of our time.

The evidence of the impact of human society on our climate has been clear for some years. The scale of the potential impact is increasingly being seen across the world, as is the scale of the challenge. IoD members are responsible leaders, who often have the opportunity to have more social impact than the average person.

This webinar is designed to give our leaders the information and confidence they need to pick up the gauntlet and use their influence and connectivity to help steer us onto a sustainable path.

This lunchtime webinar will:

  • In laymens terms, explain the science of climate change, the scale of the challenge and why urgent action is needed now.
  • Describe some of the progress that has been made in the UK in recent years, and what still remains to do.
  • Describe the leadership requirement for change, including: the business case for change, examples of businesses that have done it well, and your personal brand as a leader.
  • Call on IoD members, as leaders in businesses from all sectors, to take on this challenge, and help you to drive change.

"The year 2018 was another one of storms, fires and floods. Of all risks, it is in relation to the environment that the world is most clearly sleepwalking into catastrophe."
World Economic Forum, Global Risks Report, 2019
