This technical event will cover how effective leadership can have a positive effect on health and safety performance including how preparation for a crisis and pro-active knowledge sharing within a business can benefit a business, and ultimately an individual in a senior position.

Sally will also explore the impact of a prosecution and sentencing on both directors and companies, with a focus on the sentencing guidelines for manslaughter offences introduced by the Sentencing Council which became effective on 1 November 2018

17:30 - Health and well being in the work place - Kay’s Medical
Leaders play a key role in ensuring Health and well being in the workplace. Health and well being of employees has been shown to have a direct impact on business performance. This section led by Kay’s Medical who are experts and a large provider of Occupational Health Services to businesses, will explore from their experience and examples, causes of poor health and well being in the workplace, how leaders can address these and what tools leaders can deploy.

Sally Hancock

Sally is a partner at BLM Manchester and specialises in dealing with safety, health and environmental issues. Her work focuses on police and regulatory body investigations, prosecutions and inquests, advising and representing individuals, public bodies and corporate clients.

Sally is able to advise in the immediate aftermath of an incident in relation to a police or regulatory body investigation, and ultimately in relation to any resulting prosecution.  She handles a wide and varied caseload including prosecutions for corporate and gross negligence manslaughter, corporate and individual HSWA 1974 offences and road traffic prosecutions including death by dangerous and careless driving.

Sally is part of the BLM emergency response team which provides clients with access to critical legal advice on a 24/7 basis. Sally has been described in Legal 500 as having “great judgement and communication skills” and “a good eye for detail” as well as being “gentle but firm in cases involving fatalities”.
