IoD Cambridgeshire | IoD Connect 8:59 Breakfast - Developing the Millennial Generation

18 Apr 2019
Cambridge Bradfield Centre, Cambridge

The purpose of these breakfasts is to enable people to shape and lead their businesses more effectively.

We do this by discussing a topical business issue and sharing our findings with the rest of the room. The ethos around these breakfast events is to have you out of the door by 8:59, giving you something to take away and think about and perhaps implement as you move through the rest of your day. This month's breakfast topic will be Developing the Millennial Generation.

Millennials are typically known as the generation born in the early 1980s to late 1990s, and there are, well, many definable traits and characteristics attributed to this generational group. Known for their adeptness in technology and familiarity with social media and digital platforms, they are perceived as confident and assertive, yet entitled and narcissistic.

Whatever the stereotypes may be, there is no doubt that there is a strong need to tap into the Millennial pool, and harness the resources and capabilities within.

We will have Simon Barrington, Founder of Forge Leadership Consultancy speaking about his experience with millennials. Forge Leadership recently published the results of a year long research project into the leadership development needs of millennial leaders. Based on this research and his recently published book - Leading the Millennial Way - Simon Barrington will set out how businesses can attract, retain, develop and motivate the millennial generation.

What is special about this approach is that it works very effectively in building genuine mutual insight, rapport and trust. This in turn enables people, quite naturally, to want to “scan” the wider world on behalf of each other. This is when the notion of networking begins to have real meaning.

Because we want our 8:59 Topics to be topical, we do not publish a programme of subjects in advance. What we can promise is an opportunity to share insights, ideas and inspirations on topical business issues with like-minded leaders, giving us all something to think about and take away for the day.

Complimentary coffee and tea will be provided and breakfast is available to buy at the Café.
