IoD NI members and their guests are invited to a lunch where a panel of experts will give an informed view on UK Brexit negotiations after the EU Summit on 18th & 19th October.

Tony Connelly - Europe Editor for RTE News



Tony Connelly is Europe Editor for RTE News. He has been covering EU and European Affairs from Brussels since 2001.

Tony has reported extensively on the period before and after the Brexit referendum, and before that covered the European refugee crisis, the Greek debt situation, the Irish bail-out and the financial crisis dating back to 2008.
Tony has also reported on conflicts in Ukraine, Lebanon/Syria, Georgia, Gaza, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Angola and Rwanda.

He is the recipient of two ESB National Media awards, and a New York Festivals radio award for his documentary on the Shaktar Donetsk football club in Ukraine.
He is the author of Brexit and Ireland: the Dangers, the Opportunities and the Inside Story of the Irish Response, to be published by Penguin Books in October 2017.
His other publication is Don’t Mention the Wars: A Journey Through European Stereotypes, published 2014 by New Island.

Allie Renison - Head of Europe & Trade Policy, Institute of Directors


Allie Renison is the Institute of Directors’ Head of Europe and Trade Policy, representing the voice of members on EU policy matters to Westminster, Whitehall, and European institutions. She acts as link between business and Government on increasing international trade and provides advocacy for the IoD on a range of regulatory issues in Brussels. Previously, she was Research Director at Business for Britain, the campaign focused on renegotiating the UK’s relationship with the EU. Allie has advised parliamentarians on EU legislative issues, and holds a Masters Degree in the political economy of emerging economies in the post-Soviet space.

Maybeth Shaw - Tax Partner, BDO




Maybeth is a Tax Partner with BDO. She specialises in providing corporation tax compliance and consultancy advice, capital gains tax planning and inheritance tax planning. She works with clients across a broad spectrum of sectors including property, leisure and hospitality, manufacturing and food services. Whilst her clients have various sizes and ownership structures, Maybeth’s focus is on advising Family Owned Businesses on the wide ranging and complex tax and financial issues that they face such as Succession Planning, Estate Planning, and management of the family wealth including the use of various forms of Trusts.


Richard Gray, Partner, Carson McDowell

 

Richard Gray is a partner in Carson McDowell and jointly heads the firm’s Corporate team.  He has almost 30 years experience in advising  a range of  public and private sector clients, across a full spectrum of corporate and finance matters, both locally and internationally.  He also advises a number of clients in relation to competition matters.

Richard has been named as a ‘leader in the field’ for corporate finance in Chambers UK for more than a decade and in Chambers Guide to Europe.   The Guide refers to him as a “trusted adviser” and “very committed to the job and getting the right outcome. He has also been inducted into the Legal 500 “Hall of Fame”. He is also recommended in the Legal 500 which describes him as “authoritative, patient and not fazed by complexity.”
