Join IoD members and guests at the April IoD Swansea Business Networking evening at the Village Hotel, Swansea.
We will be joined this month by guest speaker Prof Huw Bowen, Professor of Public History at Swansea University, who will be giving a presentation on 'The Copperwork's Regeneration Project: Opportunities for Business and Innovation.'
Prof Huw Bowen
Prof Bowen is a specialist on Britain's business, economic, imperial, and maritime history. He has published widely on Britain's economic relations with Asia; and is now focusing on the development of the first globally integrated heavy industry - the copper industry - which had its centre in the Lower Swansea Valley. On behalf of Swansea University he leads the Copperworks Regeneration Project, which is seeking to transform a twelve-and-a-half acre site containing twelve listed historic buildings located in a deprived area of Swansea. He is Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
'The Copperworks Regeneration Project: Opportunities for Business and Innovation'
This illustrated talk will explain the background to, and rationale for, the Copperworks Regeneration Project, which is seeking to transform the once-derelict site of the Hafod-Morfa Copperworks in the Lower Swansea Valley. It will report on the first-phase work completed over the last four years and point the way forward to the development of a mixed-use site utilising twelve listed historic buildings. With companies now in the pipeline to occupy specific buildings over the next few years, the talk will outline how businesses can take advantage of what will be a unique, world-class heritage site.
