The world of work is being transformed, driven by rapid developments in technology, globalisation, and demographic change. The IoD believes in the need for higher standards and greater competition in education and a skills system that genuinely responds to employers’ needs. We believe in a flexible labour market, equal opportunities and in work progression so that all workers can have the opportunity to reach the executive level. Recruiting staff with the requisite skills to fill vacancies being created is one of the most common challenges facing IoD members.

We work with government and policy makers to improve and reform schools, higher education, further education and vocational training to meet the needs of UK employers. We champion the role of directors in fostering an environment conducive to job creation to boost productivity, pay and progression within the workplace and help support the work of government in ensuring fair competition and equal treatment of workers in the labour market.
