The IoD will continue to support your professional development and create networking opportunities amongst your fellow Chartered Directors. The Chartered Director Network is there for you to keep up to date but we recognise that there may be other opportunities for you to do so with other networks and providers.
There is an annual requirement to update your records including your current position / employment and your Continuing Professional Development (CPD). You are required to log this on Chartered Director Online. Further details on how you access this site will be sent to you as it also contains event fliers and a unique forum for Chartered Directors to exchange views.
Two common problems that you may encounter when trying to log CPD: 1. If you change your e-mail address this will affect your access (password) for iod.com and may mean that you cannot access the CPD site through the normal link on your personal home page. In this instance, please contact membership@iod.com to obtain a change in your password. 2. If you download a certificate during a current cycle, this will lock your record. Please contact chartered.director@iod.com to unlock your record, or for any other queries on accessing the site.
It is important you log your position and CPD for the following reasons:
Please also note:
Retaining the designation of Chartered Director raises a requirement for an annual fee of £52, or in the case of retired Chartered Directors, £26.
There are several activity types that may be pursued for CPD and there are three key categories: ‘self directed’ (ie, reading and general updating), ‘formal/professional’ (which would range from mentoring, delivering or attending seminars or learning events, including any that relate to functional or specialist activities) and ‘other’ – these might be personal development activities such as coaching sessions, skills based sessions, eg making effective presentations, etc.
Under 'formal/professional', as a guide, the activities and events offered via the IoD’s Events team carry credits (hours). Breakfast events are credited at 2 hours; half day events are credited at 4 hours and full day events at 7.5 hours. This is, of course, a guide - you may spend more time pursuing an idea arising from the event, or you may attribute an amount of time that you feel is more appropriate. Please note that you will need to log these hours within your record for the IoD’s purposes.
There is a revised guide for accessing CPD. Please contact us at chartered.director@iod.com for a copy
