Corporate governance refers to set of mechanisms used to monitor, control and incentivise directors to protect  the interests of shareholders and other stakeholders.

ALthough interest on corporate governance has increased significantly during the global financial crisis, there is little understanding of why corporate governance matters to investors and how, or whether it affects firm value.

This presentation will provide an understanding of the importance of corporate governance, and will have a particular focus on the conflicts between directors and shareholders:

  • an introduction to corporate governance
  • good and bad corporate governance practices
  • the impact of corporate governance on firm value and investor wealth
  • managerial compensation
  • the role of the board of directors

Academic speaker - Professor Aydin Ozkan

Industry speaker - Dr Roger Barker, IoD Head of Corporate Governance
