Hello,

 

I am Francis Christie and I am writing to introduce myself as the new Chairman for the IoD in H&W. I run my own business as a coach and mentor and I work as a consultant on organisational change. I have a previous track-record in leadership roles in companies like AT&T, Marconi plc and Easynet plc where I gained a lot of experience in managing change!

 

Like many of you, I joined  the IoD because of the facilities in London: it gave me a great place to meet with my customers. Then, over time, I worked more locally and travelled less. So, when my IoD renewal notice came, I too looked at the fees and wondered what value I was getting?

 

I could have complained but decided, instead, to get involved and create more value for members locally. For the last two years, I have taken the lead on events with fantastic support from Ian Smith and Robert Capper. As a result, we have arranged highly successful events with flagship local companies like Worcester Bosch, Sealine, Mazak and Morgan Cars.

 

What I would most like to do is to find better ways of engaging with you as the local members. Typically, about 10% of members come to a local IoD event. So, firstly, let me say “thank you" to all those who have contributed enthusiastically to previous events. Secondly, I would like to issue an invitation to the remaining 90%; please call me! I am keen to hear what you think and you can phone me on (01905) 641 528. I would like to understand what interests you and would get your commitment to come to local events. We are a membership organisation and it will serve you better if you make your voice heard and are actively involved.

 

We are also looking to grow the H&W Committee. So, if you are interested in shaping what we do locally, please contact me.

 

Whatever your response, I hope this note will encourage you to take a fresh look at the IoD and want to get involved yourself. I very much look forward to meeting you at one of our future events!
