The beginning of the year is a time to renew, and renewal is needed now more than ever. We need to renew our economy. During 2012 the IoD will be campaigning to make Britain one of the most competitive places in the world to do business. It’s not just about tax rates, but about getting the infrastructure we need and improving education for the long term.
We need to renew our faith in our country. As a nation, we tend to talk ourselves down and ignore our strengths. But there is still much that is great about our country. We need to regain our pride in our country, and celebrate the achievements of our entrepreneurs and business leaders. And we need to renew our faith in business. So many of our great companies were founded in times of recession and it will be no different in this decade. This year the IoD is going to lead efforts to promote our young entrepreneurs and make sure our boards reflect the society they serve. We’re going to show that, when it matters most, business leadership can make a real difference.
As we enter 2012 the IoD in Milton Keynes will continue to be at the forefront in representing the business community on those important matters affecting wealth creation in the City.
Over the coming months we are arranging a number of interesting events for our members. I would encourage you to attend whenever possible, not only out of interest in the subject, but also in order to meet fellow directors.
Your committee hopes that, through a varied and interesting calendar of events coupled with being a leading voice of business representation in MK, we might be a driving force in the renewal in Milton Keynes.
