The IoD operates a number of International branches which organise local activities and networking events for members and their guests. International IoD members are part of an influential network of business leaders worldwide and benefit from free access to prestigious member premises in the UK, France and Belgium.

In addition to international branches, the IoD also works with a network of global IoD affiliates. As the world's most experienced and long-standing organisation advocating director professionalism, the IoD in the UK has received numerous requests over the years to assist and support the start up of affiliate institutes who have benefited from the reputation and extensive experience of the IoD whilst maintaining an independent stance.

This international interest and the increasingly international nature of business have led to the formation of IoD International, the Institute global network of IoD branches and affiliates.
