Welcome to the Herts IoD - a branch which covers Hertfordshire, Middlesex and parts of South Bedfordshire (including Biggleswade, Luton, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard). We are one of the largest in the UK with approximately 2300 members.

The Branch is run by a committee of volunteers, all members of the IoD, who are elected at the AMM for an initial period of three years,. The committee is supported by a part-time Branch Administrator, Anne Nudd, admin.herts@iod.net who can be contacted if you have any general questions, or specific queries about your membership, bookings and payments.

We aim to add value to membership at the local level by organising a variety of events and in addition to our thriving networking breakfasts and ladies' lunches, are planning a number of evening functions and opportunities for director development. Events are displayed on the Hertfordshire page of this website and we also notify members in our monthly emails - please sign up to receive them if you haven't already done so by logging in to IoD.com.

Email opt-in

Don't miss out! The Hertfordshire Branch is communicating with members via email only. We would therefore encourage all of you who haven't opted-in to receive emails from Herts IoD to do so as soon as possible. This will enable us to keep you up to date on branch events, items of interest in the region and any issues facing our local businesses.

Hert Talk Breakfasts

The New format "Hert Talk" breakfast had its first meeting on Friday 13th January 2012.  It was well received by all who attended and the following highlights the major points of the discussion.  There were a few comments taken on board and the following objectives were agreed.  It was felt that the positive discussion was better than being sold to for 15 minutes!

Objectives:
• To agree three points for the Herts IoD to take to the Central Policy Unit for lobbying to Parliament
• To provide a debating forum allowing attendees to discuss and question an industry expert in a selected discipline
Today's subject was Property and Premises led by Meirion Anderson of Aberley "Workplace Consultants - Making your workplace work for your business".

• Lease becoming shorter to provide more flexibility for business
• Know what you need - the facility must support your business plans and not be a drag
• Understand where the costs are:
   o Rent
   o Business Rates
   o Service Charge
   o Facility Management
   o Dilapidations
o Fit out and furniture and fixtures
• Use the space to its maximum - at any time 40% of desks in this country are unoccupied
• Use technology to improve efficiency - e.g. Video Conferencing
• Design the support space - right size meeting rooms, telephone booths and breakout spaces where appropriate
• Think - the right space can deliver real business improvements and staff efficiency
There are twelve meetings at the Ramada Hatfieldand eleven breakfasts at Putteridge Bury Conference Centre, Luton.  These  meetings are always held on a Friday and run from 0700 - 0930 hrs.
The cost is £17 +VAT for member/member's guest, £21+VAT for non-members.
