The IoD is the UK's number one organisation for business leaders. It is a non-party political business organisation founded by Royal Charter in 1903 with around 40,000 members and a turnover of some £30million. Members include CEO's of large corporations as well as entrepreneurial directors of start-up companies from many sectors of the economy - media, manufacturing, e-business and public sector.

IoD membership has increased almost 50% since 1996 and turnover has almost doubled during the same period. The IoD is now building on its successes; quality is ingrained in the ethos of the organisation and the vibrant and team oriented entrepreneurial culture is firmly connected to the commercial and social demands of the contemporary world.

The IoD has always championed the entrepreneur and seeks to provide an environment conducive to business success. Informed decisions depend upon knowledge and experience. The IoD is dedicated to providing directors with the information and advice they require to help their business succeed. The organisation's voice is sought, heard and respected in Whitehall and Westminster.
