We are coming out of the recession and this is the time for businesses, large and small, to react and grow, to take on new challenges, take some risks and ensure they don’t get left behind.

Clare Barclay, director of Small & Medium Business, Microsoft UK

Clare has been in the IT industry for more than 20 years. Her diverse experience working for Microsoft spans 15 years, during which time she has occupied a number of senior positions in the company across partner, European strategy and the enterprises services divisions. 

As director of Small & Medium Business for Microsoft, Clare is responsible for the SMB market growth and revenue through the channel. This encompasses sales of all products and solutions into the SMB customer through distribution and our reselling channel - and specifically includes accountability for driving both cloud and hosting solutions.  Prior to this role, as director of Partner Strategy & Programmes, Clare was responsible for leading the channel strategy and partner programme for Microsoft UK.

Adam Soliman, founder of Charbrew

Building a fledgling tea business from his parents’ house was a far cry from 21 year old Adam Soliman’s dream of the City trading floor. But, just three years after graduating in the thick of the worst recession in a generation, the young entrepreneur now heads one of the UK’s fastest-growing speciality tea brands. He spotted a gap in the market for a quality tea product and set-up Charbrew using £5,000 of personal savings.

Natasha Faith, co-founder of La Diosa

Natasha is co-founder and designer of multi-award winning brand La Diosa, Spanish for “The Goddess”. She and co-founder, Semhal Zemikael, established the business at 21 and had almost instant success.

Aged 19, Natasha travelled the world and it was during this time that she and her business partner learned jewellery-making skills in Mexico. On returning home they approached the Prince’s Trust and were provided with funding to start the business. Their first collection launched in Harvey Nichols and sold out in two weeks despite the recession; last year growth reached 103% and La Diosa now has a strong following of celebrity fans. La Diosa has also been asked to create the first ever jewellery line for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, helping raise money for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.

Nikki Hesford, managing director of Miss Fit UK LTD

Nikki Hesford is a 27 year old award winning entrepreneur, single mum and ex-glamour model now owning Miss Fit UK manufacturing clothing, lingerie and swimwear for big busted women. From starting her business in early 2008 selling a handful of blouses online, Nikki now owns The Big Bra Bar, a leading lingerie e-commerce brand and manufactures branded and white label clothing and lingerie for the high street. This year Nikki decided to take the bold step of bringing manufacturing back to the UK and now has a small lingerie factory in Preston, with an in-house design and sample room.
