Why did you become a member of the IoD?
"The IoD, to me, represents the quality bar for all directors. An organisation that is steeped in tradition, yet forward looking. When I set up Greenlight, I wanted to ensure that I spent time with the right people and had somewhere to go that had interesting people to talk to and members that I could learn from. Having been a member now in Jersey for four years, I have certainly benefitted from the interaction and information available through formal discussion and less formal lunches."
What does being a member mean to you?
"Being a member to me means that I have a network of peers that I know is there when I need them, from regular lunches to the Annual Convention, and access to places like Pall Mall when my trips take me to London. Having that network there to call upon whether face-to-face or as part of the many LinkedIn discussion groups means that whatever the challenge being faced, there are others to interact with that can help."
What does winning the IoD Young Director of the Year signify for you?
"It is fantastic to have the recognition of what the Greenlight team have accomplished over the last four and half years. When you are right in the thick of things, it is sometimes difficult to see just what you have accomplished, but the submissions process and the subsequent interactions with my peers has gone to show that the Greenlight story so far has been a special one. But there is still a lot left to do!"
Have you made connections as a result of your membership?
"Without a doubt. The IoD has been one of the best ways of getting out there and meeting those individuals who are helping to shape the local business community. I am glad that the organisation exists and I welcome the regular lunches and events, and look forward to future opportunities to expand my network."
