Employment and Digital Skills Policy Lead – Institute of Directors
Contract: Full Time
Location: Pall Mall, Central London

The Institute of Directors is recruiting an Employment and Digital Skills Policy Lead who will report to our Director of Policy. The IoD recognises that the nature of work is changing, as is the nature of our economy. From analysing changes in the labour market to solving our productivity conundrum, the IoD Policy Unit is looking to research and explore the challenges facing the country. The role is based within our busy and stimulating Policy Unit at the IoD’s Pall Mall headquarters, and comes with a good deal of autonomy. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, responsible for identifying and researching policy proposals and contributing to the wider work of the Policy Unit.

A shortage of key skills is one of the top three problems cited by IoD members when asked about the barriers to growing their business. In order to best represent the interests of the IoD’s members, you will be a creative individual who can independently generate imaginative and eye catching policy proposals that complement the current political landscape. You will be responsible for leading on the public facing activity associated with this policy area, including in presentations to colleagues, stakeholders and the media. General tasks associated with the role include conducting research, engaging with IoD regional offices and members, appearing in the media, briefing the Director General and senior colleagues, responding to consultations and engaging with politicians and civil servants.

  • Graduate from a leading university
  • Minimum three years’ work experience
  • An excellent oral and written communicator
  • Ability to undertake independent quantitative research focused on employment and skills
  • Previous policy work in the areas
  • An understanding of the UK’s political, media and policy landscape.


  • The role will require appearing in the media, therefore previous experience of that would be beneficial
  • Strong social media presence and understanding
