The IoD employs approximately 240 permanent staff. The majority of these staff work in our head office in Pall Mall, London, although we also have staff in our regional offices in Reading, Birmingham, Manchester, Belfast and Edinburgh.

Parliamentary Affairs Officer

Full Time

Salary: Circa £25,000 per annum - dependent upon experience

The IoD is one of the UK’s leading business lobbying organisations. Its policy, press and parliamentary affairs team represents the IoD’s 34,500 members and advances the case for business in government, Parliament, the media and other influential forums. The IoD campaigns to improve the business environment in the UK, and we are looking for an outstanding graduate to provide support to our programme of government and Parliamentary engagement.

This role will involve, undertaking research, drafting consultation responses, policy development, and supporting the IoD’s wider lobbying activities.

The successful candidate will be highly organised and have excellent verbal and written communication skills; as well as an ability to understand complex business issues. They will also have a strong understanding of the workings of Westminster and Whitehall.

Corporate Governance Tutor / Consultant (Associate contract)

Central London with UK and international travel

The role

The Institute of Directors has a new opening for an experienced and talented associate tutor, who specialises in corporate governance and board effectiveness. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading professional institute that represents business leaders across the globe and a faculty at the forefront of director development.

You will work closely with the Professional Development team to design and deliver a range of programmes for the IoD’s clients, which include directors and boards from all sectors and industries worldwide. You will act as ambassador and thought leader for the IoD and work with other faculty team members to promote the importance of continuous professional development for directors and boards.

Successful applicants must have a minimum of seven years’ experience as an executive or non-executive director, senior executive, or in a senior board advisory role.

Main responsibilities

  • To deliver and/or design a range of courses on behalf of the IoD to the highest quality standards and that meet the need of our clients
  • To assist in content production for the ‘Role of the Director and the Board’ programme
  • To contribute to the development of the overall syllabus for the Chartered Director programme
  • To undertake consultancy assignments relating to the Course Leader’s specialism
  • To support the Learning and Standards team in the development of existing and new products and services
  • To provide advice, expertise and support to the sales team when required
  • Working closely with IoD key account managers and client stakeholders to understand their strategic learning plans and objectives
  • To respond to subject related queries from delegates and clients in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate a commitment to own continuous professional development and keep subject matter expertise up to date
  • To support the IoD is achieving its strategic goals

Qualifications and experience required

Essential

  • A minimum of 7 years combined experience as an executive or non-executive director, senior executive, or in a senior board advisory role.
  • Clear evidence of a high level of expertise and specialisation in corporate governance and board effectiveness. Evidence may include relevant academic or professional qualifications/experience, or a track record in a specialist role in corporate governance (e.g. company secretary, governance specialist at an institutional investor or corporate lawyer).

Desirable

  • Prior learning and development experience at director level, including development and delivery of courses, programmes, exam questions, using learning technologies, coaching and mentoring etc.
  • Advanced academic qualifications (e.g. a Masters’ degree or PhD)
  • A publications record in the relevant field
  • International experience, particularly in respect of non-UK courses and/or consultancy
  • Commercial, public and/or third sector business experience
  • Be certified or experienced in the deployment of psychometric tests, personality diagnostics and/or profiling tools.

Knowledge and skills required

  • An in depth knowledge of corporate governance structures in the UK and major international markets
  • Up to date awareness of the latest corporate governance reforms and legislation
  • An understanding of the IoD’s professional development portfolio and wide range of membership benefits
  • Excellent facilitation and group management skills
  • Ability to engage and build rapport with a wide range stakeholders
  • Leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop others
  • UK and international business and commercial awareness

Senior Economist

Full Time

Salary: Competitive – dependent upon experience

The IoD is looking to recruit a Senior Economist to work closely with the Chief Economist and Director of Policy on a wide range of macro-economic questions, develop the IoD’s approach to the European Union and develop the IoD’s stance and policies on trade.

This role will include responsibility for researching, drafting and publishing reports, giving presentations, conducting quantitative analysis and participating in and contributing to meetings and committees as required.

We are looking for a post graduate in economics or a related degree from a leading university with at least 5 years’ relevant experience and knowledge of the UK economy combined with quantitative research analysis capabilities and experience in government policy making and an understanding of the policy making process. 

The successful candidate will have strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to explain economic concepts to non-expert audiences. Experience of dealing directly with the Media would also be an advantage.

New Economy Policy Lead

Full Time
Location: Pall Mall, London
Salary: Competitive - dependent upon experience

The IoD is looking to recruit a New Economy Policy Lead who will report to our Chief Economist and Director of Policy. This is a new role, and its primary objective is to lead the IoD in developing a position as a key advocate for new economy business and explaining its importance and impact to the wider UK economy.

We are looking for a Graduate from a leading university with in depth and current knowledge of the Technology Media and Telecoms economy and entrepreneurial companies. You will be an excellent communicator with at least 5 years’ experience, with a background of one or more of the following areas:

  • Quantitative research analysis of one of more segments of the new economy
  • Experience in starting a successful new economy company
  • Policy analysis focused on new economy, or a segment of the new economy

The successful candidate will work closely with our the Policy Unit and will be responsible for conducting research, writing reports, articles, speeches and consultation responses and will act as a key spokesperson on this specialist area.

This role will also involve policy development, giving presentations, appearing in the media and travel as appropriate.
